A Victorian papier mache black lacquer and mother of pearl tea caddy, c.1860.
The caddy boasts an ebonised black lacquer finish with mother of pearl and gilt decoration throughout. The lid has a stunning design with a painted poppy and smaller flowers surrounded by an intricate mother of pearl foliate design. The lid lifts to reveal two lidded compartments, both retaining their original lid and handles.
The tea caddy has a historic repair to rear right hinge and some craquelure and general wear to the body commensurate with age. The tea caddy remains a very attractive piece.
