A still life of good proportions depicting a stoneware jug, blue and white porcelain pot and an orange iridescent glass bowl, upon a table with patterned blue fabric and blush pink silk. Stamps for 'A. Waterlow Studio Collection' verso, as well as an historic label for Sotheby's. Circa. early 20th century.

Sir Ernest Albert Waterlow (1850-1919) was a prominent British landscape, animal and rural scene painter. He had a large studio collection of paintings which were dispersed upon his death. The numerous stamps verso to the stretcher and canvas mark this work as coming from his studio, however as Waterlow was not known to paint still life, and the canvas looks to date circa. early 20th century, it is unlikely to be by his hand; that said, there is always the possibility that it may be. Photos of his studio show blue and white porcelain pots and stoneware jugs to his fireplace so it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the work could have been a late experimental piece in still life.

The work has a very small paint loss to the upper right (please see photographs). Unframed.

A well-painted still life with remarkable verve given its subject.
