A mid-19th century watercolour portrait of Reverend John Neale of Bristol (inscribed verso).
The work is well executed with excellent attention to detail and the real care taken with the sitter's expression, at once both affable and calm. There is a small crease running to the left of the left of the sitter's face.
The work is housed in a period glazed ebonised and gilt wood frame. The frame has some lights signs of wear commensurate with age. Displays well.
Provenance: Dreweatts, Lot 362, June 15 2004.
