A miniature Louis XVI mahogany, bronze and marble commode, c.1800.
The white carrara marble top is enclosed by a pierced gilt bronze three quarter gallery, above three full length drawers flanked by fluted pilasters, delicately inset with brass, with a decorative brass panel depicting vine leaves and grapes to the top of each. A bronze moulding surrounds both the base of the first drawer and toupie feet. The sides of the chest are equally detailed, with further brass inset inset panels and mouldings.
The top drawer is a later replacement. The bottom moulding is absent from the right side of the chest. There are knocks to the bronze gallery at the left hand edge and back right(please see photographs). Overall however the chest presents handsomely, being of good colour and proportions.
A scarce thing.
