'The History Of Scotland' by William Robertson, printed/published in London, 1827. Robertson's works on Scotland's history are complete in two volumes.
The boards measure 22cm x 13.75cm and are fully bound in tree calf leather with gilt stamped decoration to the boards and spine, together with red leather title panels. The boards of both volumes remain firmly affixed and the bindings of both volumes remain tight. There is shelf wear to the extremities of both volumes and a small tear to the title panel of Volume I.
Internally both volumes bear an inscription to the front endpaper which states, 'Presented to John Galliford by the members of the Southmolton Mechanics Institute for conducting the Office of Secretary'. John Galliford was the mayor of South Molton, Devon, between 1887-88, and presided the ceremonial opening of both the Mechanics Institute, and South Molton post office which still bears a commemorative tablet with his name to this day.
The pages of both volumes show some age tone throughout and spotting to the preliminary pages, but remain in a very good condition overall.
