A stunning late 18th century sampler by 'Louise Simmons, Aged 7'. The textile and design are consistent with samplers c.1770-1800. The work is housed in a glazed gilt frame.
The sampler is beautifully executed with a rose border and delicate foliate decoration surrounding the central verses, which read:
'Come guilty souls and flee awayTo Christ and heal your wounds
This is the welcome gospel day
Wherein free grace abounds.
God loved the church and gave his Son
To drink the cup of wrath.
And Jesus says he'll cast out none
That come to him by faith.'
There is a small hole to the fabric at the word 'flee' and a small chip to the gilt o the top right of the frame. Generally the piece is in a very good attractive condition.
