A large early 18th century oak mule chest.
The chest has a later rectangular top with a cross banded edge above four fielded panels flanked by two columns, all above two short drawers raised on block feet. The lid opens to reveal a large oak lined compartment with an additional two drawers.
The chest has some wear commensurate with age, mainly to the left drawer moulding and the inside of the right block foot (please see photographs) which adds to the character of the piece. The oak has a wonderful patina throughout.
An extremely functional and attractive piece.
Provenance: From the private collection of a Suffolk gentleman.
