An extremely attractive 19th century carved oak and brass dinner gong of large proportions.
The piece boasts fine barley twist arms with ornately carved oak to the top and bottom of the frame, all above carved oak scroll feet. The brass gong itself is thick and extremely heavy, sitting upon later hooks within the frame. There is a small hole to the underside of the gong (please see photographs) but it still has a lovely deep and resonating ring when struck.
There is a historic repair to the front inside left foot and a very sympathetic repair to the top. The top repair has been so well done it is barely evident but can just be seen in a straight line across the top portion from the back when looked at closely (please see close-up photograph); the repair is not visible from the front at all.
A very attractive gong of unusual yet striking design. A really lovely piece.
Gong diameter: 53.5cm
