A fine 19th century inlaid walnut jewellery box with fitted interior.
The box boasts fine inlay to the lid and each side, the top with the initials 'M.C.H' ingrained into the wood. The lid opens on 'M&P' branded brass hinges to reveal a stunning interior with an intricate wood design to the interior lid with a central black and white shield. The interior box has one rectangular compartment and four square. The fitted interior lifts to reveal a hidden compartment beneath. Red felt lining to the base.
The lid does not quite close properly leaving a small gap to the left side and the escutcheon looks to be a rather crude historic replacement (please see photographs).
An extremely attractive and unusual piece.
