A charming artist's watercolour paintbox by George Rowney & Co. The box label states the company address as 52 Rathbone Place, London; George Rowney & Co are documented as operating from that address between 1854-1862 and dates the box nicely thus. Key absent.
The hinged mahogany lid opens to reveal an array of watercolours, largely untouched, together with a further black watercolour paint block and accoutrements left by the box's previous artist. The bottom tray opens by lifting a pin and reveals a ceramic paint dish. The watercolours lift out to reveal three ceramic mixing dishes.
The whole remains in a very good attractive condition throughout.
