A delightful 19th century oil on canvas depicting a street entertainer with dogs and a puppet booth, surrounded by bystanders and children rushing to see the show. The work is signed (possibly 'W. Gray') and dated 1880 within a sign at the top left.
The work is very well executed with great verve. The attention to detail throughout is worth note, from the hints of windows in the foreground to the distant landscape through the alleyway.
A charming work.
