A lovely late 19th century inlaid mahogany drop front stationary box, c.1880.
The exterior has wonderful parquetry detailing to the doors, with a parquetry border to each side of the box. The top lifts to open the drop-front, revealing a green leather writing slope with a gilt border, two inlaid drawers, a pen try, two ink well holders, and five stationary holders (four smaller, one large). The pen tray lifts to reveal a small compartment beneath. Original green baize lining to the base.
The left drawer is missing the top of its handle (but can still be opened with the remaining section), and there are two small holes in the writing slope leather where the drawer handles press against it when closed.
As stated above, there are some small losses commensurate with age but overall the stationary box remains in a very good and original condition.
