A stunning and substantial late 19th century gilt bronze and malachite inkwell.
The circular plate for the resting of the pen boasts finely engraved detail and surrounds the central pedestal, which has a hinged top surmounted with an attractive malachite. The interior has a later small glass liner. The base is lined with a dark purple fabric.
There are a few signs of wear commensurate with age, predominantly to the lower edge of the lid, but generally the piece remains in a very good attractive condition.
