'Wild Flowers As They Grow' by H. Essenhigh Corke, published by Cassell and Company Ltd, London, 1912. Complete in five volumes.
A hand written note tucked into the front flyleaf of Volume I dated October 28th 1931 is congratulating 'John' on the 'wonderful week of the General Election'. This is possibly John Allsebrook Simon (1873-1954) who led the Liberal National Party and was part of a landslide election victory on October 27th 1931 for 'National Government'; a three-party coalition formed following the collapse of the Labour government two months previous.
This attractive set is three quarter bound in green Moroccan leather with five raised bands to the spine. Title, volume number and date of publication are gilt stamped to the spine of each volume. Green cloth boards. Some light marking to the cloth boards in areas but generally the exterior of the volumes remains in a very good attractive condition.
Top page edge gilt. All pages remain clean and bright.
