A charming 17th century oak six plank coffer of pegged construction, c.1650.
The coffer has a wonderful colour throughout and is very tactile. The supports are carved with a gothic arch and remain at a good level of height.
As is expected with a piece of this age, there are small wood shrinkage splits near some of the pegs and signs of historic worm in areas. The lid has later replacement hinges and interior support planks, and opens and closes with ease.
