Synopsis

William Young Sellar (1825–1890) was a Scottish classical scholar and professor at the University of Edinburgh. This book is his third and final volume in the influential series on Roman poets. It focuses heavily on Horace, offering a detailed analysis of his life, his Odes, Satires, and Epistles, followed by an examination of the Roman elegiac poets, primarily Ovid, Propertius, and Tibullus.

Sellar's work is celebrated for its critical insight, scholarly depth, and appreciative, eloquent writing style, making it a foundation for nineteenth-century classical studies.
