A charming oil on board titled 'Sketch - Nelson At Copenhagen', depicting Lord Horatio Nelson at the Battle of Copenhagen, placing a telescope to his blind eye, or 'turning a blind eye' to the signal to disengage on 2nd April 1801.
The board is stamped 'Reeves & Sons, London' to the rear, the stamp design of which was in use by Reeves & Sons between 1898-1916 thus the work can be relatively accurately dated to within a 20 year period.
There are some thin lines of paint losses to the work (please see photographs) but it nonetheless remains attractive and characterful.
