A large 18th century portrait of a young lady wearing a blue and white silk dress, diamond and ruby brooch and flowers and pearls in her hair.
The sitter has a charming expression which draws one into the painting. The whole is very well executed and of good proportions. The work sits within a later gilt frame that has been heavily overpainted.
The work has been historically relined and small areas of paint loss are visible to the bottom edge and a small area to the background near her hair piece. 'Sabine - 1734' is handwritten in pencil verso, possibly the identity of the sitter and year of the painting as stated on the original canvas/stretcher, later inscribed by the restorer who re-lined the work.
