A charming Georgian sterling silver nutmeg grater, c.1775.
The grater is hallmarked with an 'R.G' maker's mark, the crowned lion stamp for London and the remnants of what appears to be the 'U' date stamp for 1775 can be seen to the base (the absence of a duty stamp indicates a date before 1784 and the stamp border is consistent with the 1756-1775 period; the letter portion visible is consistent with the styled letter 'U' within this period).
The grater has a silver lid which lifts off entirely revealing the interior with the original grating plate still present. The whole piece shows signs of wear as expected but displays well.
