A late 19th century oil on canvas after Achille Petrocello (Italian, 1861-1929), depicting an elderly Italian gentleman with a cap, scarf and pipe.
The work is skilfully painted with great verve, making the subject pop from the canvas.
There is significant craquelure throughout giving the painting a textural appearance. There are some small areas of paint loss but the rest of the paint appears stable. The work is housed in a later gilt frame which sits a little loosely, but nonetheless holds the work safely.
