A 19th century relief carved cameo conch shell of large proportions, depicting a Roman Goddess or Bacchante with delicately carved leaves and grapes in her hair.
The relief carving is extremely well carved and boasts exceptional detail. The conch shell itself shows some wear commensurate with age, most notably a surface crack to the back lower right of the shell which remains stable and intact. The piece stands well and remains attractive.
An unusual piece.
