A 19th century oil on canvas depicting a robed friar reading a text.
The work is very well executed being of excellent proportion and depth, and really does draw the eye.
The work is unframed and shows some areas of paint loss to the extremities. There is a pinhole sized perforation to the lower left which has a small area of paint loss around it (please see photographs). There are numerous artist strokes verso and evidence of a historic patch repair.
A characterful work.
