A charming 19th century oil on canvas depicting two children outside a school door looking in at a lesson. Unsigned

The work really does depict an intriguing subject with the little girl hiding behind her brother and looking straight out of the canvas. The artist has paid attention to small details throughout, with a small hour glass on the window sill and a cat nestled in the corner of the doorway. 

There is some light craquelure throughout and it does appear that the painting has been historically cleaned/restored. 

A great looking work of interesting subject.
