A lovely example of a 19th century Lambert Hitchcock ebonised and gilt chair, with another similar.
The Lambert Hitchcock chair has remnants of the original gilt signature to the back. The cane seat appears to be a later replacement, otherwise the chair remains in a lovely original condition with original gilt and black paint with the original stencil to the back slat faded but visible.
The second chair is a near pair to the Hitchcock; it is possible the second chair is a Hitchcock with the rear signature having been overpainted. The gilt stencil to the back slat is clear and bright.
A very attractive set.
