A very impressive 19th century Burmese Anglo-Indian carved rosewood chair with a dark leather seat.
The chair boasts exceptional detail with the legs carved in the form of an animal with cat-like features hiding behind leaf held in its toothed mouth, with delicately carved birds feeding from a bunch of berries beneath. A foliate apron sits above the legs with the chair back featuring a central carved bird amongst an intricate foliate design within which hide more bird forms, with two carved lions to the top. The chair back is carved in a seamless curve to the back edge, which gives the chair a very attractive side profile.
The chair has multiple sympathetic repairs to the chair back, most notably to the left edge, and a repair to the rear leg with a replacement brass castor (please see photographs).
The rosewood has a wonderful patina throughout and has a lovely warm tone when caught by natural light.
A truly stunning chair.
