A stunning collection of six large architectural engravings after J. Schnebbelie (1760-1792) by James Basire I (1730-1802), probably for 'Vetusta Monumenta' - a published series of illustrated antiquarian papers on ancient buildings, sites and artefacts, mostly those of Britain, published at irregular intervals between 1718 and 1906 by the Society of Antiquaries of London. The folio-sized papers, usually written by members of the society, were first published individually, and then later in collected volumes.

This Schnebbelie/Basire collection comprises of:

  • 'Figures on the Spandrils of Lady Percy's Monument'
  • 'Monument of Edward Stafford, Earl of Wiltshire, 1499'
  • 'Brasses in the Church of Higham Ferrers'
  • 'Monument of Bishop Dudley in Westminster Abbey 1483'
  • 'Joan, Lady Cromwell in Tatesdale Church, Lincolnshire'.

Each work is housed in identical contemporary battleship grey and gilt frames. The frame shows some wear to the extremities but generally remain in a very good attractive condition. The engravings themselves have some light age tone in areas commensurate with age but remain crisp and clean overall.

Dimensions (framed)
