A superb coromandel, brass and jasperware stationary box by Cormack Brothers of 37 Ludgate Hill, London, c.1880. Working lock and key.

The domed lid is inset with a jasperware plaque and brass rope twist mounts, opening to reveal a blue silk lined interior and the 'Cormack Brothers' brass plaque.

The Cormack Brothers were an esteemed maker and retailer active c.1804-1880s, specialising in luxury boxes and writing slopes. Their pieces typically featured fine woods and brass mounts, as found in this example.

The coromandel is a little matte and there is a small area of hairline cracking to the wood at the top left of the lid (please see photgraphs). The key and lock works perfectly, all brass mounts remain firmly affixed, the jasperware plaque is in an excellent condition, as is the silk interior. A really lovely example of Cormack Brothers' craftsmanship.
