A charming George III oak tilt top table, c.1760, in a wonderfully original condition. This table was sourced from Monk's Hall estate; a 15th century estate on the Suffolk/Norfolk border. It is likely this piece was estate made and been part of the estate ever since.

The original three plank oak top has an exceptional colour. It locks into place onto the canon barrel stem via the original blacksmith-made iron catch, all above a tripod support with cabriole legs. The underside of the pillar retains its original reinforcement plate.

The table is very substantial and sits beautifully. The top leans forward when tilted up but this appears to be a quirk in the original construction and the piece remains stable in the upright position nonetheless.

Upon close inspection, there is evidence of a small portion of historic woodworm to the barrel stem but otherwise the piece remains in a very good condition overall.

A charming provincial piece, full of character.
